Executing multiple reports to form single document
In my project I have lot of small small reports having the same criteria
e.g. Company and Years, the requirement here is to execute all these reports
and create a single document that can be delivered to customer's customer. I
am not able to find any such posting in this group or not able to find any
pointers on this.
Your help on this would be really appreciated.
Thanks in Advance
--
CloudsYou could use subreports as a way of combining your multiple reports. You
would have one "master" report that consisted of simply several subreports.
That would enable you to run the master and export it.

Executing an external process() in SQLCLR Project
I can create an external text file from within the SQLCLR project, but I cannot run an external executable. Just in case you are asking, I need to do this to push data into a legacy application using a different DB format. I have found it best to simply use my old language (Clipper) for data validation, etc. - and especially since I require multiple indices to be open. So, if you could just take my word on this.
The following code:
Process newProcess = new Process();
string path = @."C:\TEST.BAT";
newProcess.StartInfo.FileName = path;
newProcess.Start();
Executes without error, but does not actually run the external.
Now, I can have a DOS (Clipper) application poll a directory for text files, but I am trying to get away from all these "mini" data transformation applications. If an exception is caused in the DOS app, a remote user on the other side of the country has no idea it is broke and his data (coming from a SQL Mobile Device) never gets to our legacy database structure.
So, am I out of luck?
Is your assembly deployed at the UNSAFE permission level? What happens if you try to run the same code in a console app run under the same user account (SQL Server service account or impersonated account, as appropriate)?|||
Hi Nicole - thx for responding.
I am able to execute a console app - the issue is that SQL Server will not allow touching any network drive or network resource period (from a SQLCLR Project). So my cmd app can update a DB on the C drive, but not one of my network drives.
As well, I can establish an OLEDB connection (Visual Foxpro) to a local directory, but not a network directory. I'm surprised that CLR will not even allow an external app to touch a network resource. Wild, eh? Although I understand why there is such security, there must be a way for me to execute an external console app that can update a DB on a network resource.
Oh - and yes, I am running the assembly at the UNSAFE permission level.
|||Might the problem be the user context rather than anything having to do with SQLCLR? Unless you deliberately impersonate another user (e.g.: via SqlContext.WindowsIdentity.Impersonate), your SQLCLR code will run under the user context of the SQL Server service account, which is highly unlikely to have any permissions on any network resources.|||I think you're correct - it has to do with attempting to authenticate a local user (IUSR_Computername) on a network resource. I will look into impersonation (something my wife says I'm horrible at...)
You know, Nicole, you are the first person to assist me in these forums. I had actually thought of using a female handle - seems they get a pretty quick response... :)
I'll post the results of my efforts... and thx again.
|||After impersonation, I can do something simple like use a streamwriter to create a text file on a network share. But it still throws an exception when attempting to execute an executable on the same network share. The impersonation rights are those of administrator (only for testing!). Oh, in case you're wondering - I simply change the Process StartInfo from @."C:\Mobile.exe" to @."F:\Mobile.exe", and you will have to take my word for it that the Mobile exists in both places. It runs without exception on the C drive.
What's really wild, is that the actual Mobile.exe code (clipper) will update a dbf on the C drive, but not on the F drive. What does the CLR do? Freeze all resources when in process? geez!
I'm also using:
[PermissionSetAttribute(SecurityAction.Demand, Name = "FullTrust")]
So... I really thought this would allow my CLR code to access a network share. I can't understand why the answer to this wouldn't be just a little more simple, even for an old programmer like me.

Executing a SQL Script with MSDE
I am learning about .NET apps and working with the ASP.NET Unleashed book. The project I am working on says to execute the SQL script using the SQL Query Analyzer, which I assume is available with Enterprise Server.
Could anyone guide me through the process of executing a SQL Script with the MSDE? Or point me in the right directions (white papers, etc)
Much appreciated
MPYou can use OSQL which is a command line tool that comes with MSDE.
This should get you started|||Thanks, that should get me started on something. I appreciate the prompt reply.

ExecuteNonQuery Fails catastrophically
When I have pulled the data once and this application has shut down (exited) I can open it again and then continue normally but I can't expect the application to PULL the data and then even add or update a row to that table. I can do select queries fine. Why would this happen?
I am disposing all the objects that I use in both the scenarios, or atleast I believe so.
Does any one have any idea? For anyone else having the same problem -
The solution is to refrain from deleting the database manually through code and also to refrain from creating the database through code. Somehow it interferes with the ExecuteNonQuery later on. From what I have made out from my research it happens mostly with Emulators. Shouldn't be an issue with real device.

Execute SSIS project from ASP.NET page
Can you execute a SSIS project from an ASPX page? Or do you have to wrap it into a SQL job and run that?
Does anybody have a code snippet to do this?
Well, you can, but it is rarely a good idea for at least two reasons:
you are sharing address space and threads with IIS, so the scalability of this solution is limitedExecute SSIS package from a ASN.NET 2.0
Dear Friends,
I have a SSIS project (You can see in my blog) with the main parameters, StartDate and EndDate.
How can I refresh this parameters? Where I save it?
Use a table in database with the fields Startdate and Enddate, and link it to my variables in SSIS?
Use the package configuration of SSIS?
Give me some tips!
regards!
How often are they updated? If they change frequently, I'd store it in a database, and use an Execute SQL task to populate variables in my package. If they don't change often, I'd use configurations.|||jwelch,
Change each day... I will run this package one or two time per day, and the parameters receive the startdate and enddate. For almost the case, because I will import data for each date, the startdate will be Currentdate-1 and the enddate will be CurrentDate, but could be changed for some cases by the user administrator.
The user administrator sometimes would require to import dates for a different interval of dates...
Do you thinks is better to save in a table in database?
Thanks!

Execute DTS package from .adp ?
Currently I save a DTS as a storage file. I then run the storage file
with VBA code in the .adp(Access Data Project). This works if you run
the ADP on the Server but the users of the .adp will be opening it on
the network from their machines. When they do it says missing
custtask.dll and some other .dll these .dll are in the SQL server Binn
on the server so they are not on the users machines.
I could not register the .dlls on the user machines without SQL Server.
It would be great if I could solve this problem but I'm not sure
how....
Another possiblity would be to save the DTS SQL Server msdb table and
run it from the server but I do not know how to run the DTS using VBA
code or a SQL statement...
Please help with any documentation or suggestions,
ChuckHi
This may be useful:
http://www.sqldts.com/default.aspx?225
You could run the DTS package as a scheduled job
http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=269074
or a job started manually

post on every client or possibly from your own stored procedure:

Please help with any documentation or suggestions,
ChuckYou can dts runtime. You'd want to read the readme for details as to what's
distributable.
Meanwhile, you want to save your dts package on sqlserver (i.e. in msdb) and
then create a sqljob for the package. Then in your vba, you would invoke
sp_start_job 'jobname' to execute it.
